If you don't care you just want something hot called coffee then you can make it easy on your-self and just buy the cheapest thing possible. However if you are into coffee that is high quality then it is importent to do lots of research. A good place to start is to google "coffee reviews" that will get you some of the higher quality coffees such as: Intelligenstia, Peet's Coffee, and Paridise Roasters. even though I haven't had all three of these coffee brands I know by my research how to judge coffee. Another good way to find coffee that you like is to experiment by what other people say is good, and then if you do like what they have graded highly then you look to see what else they like. These are a few of the ways I decide what coffee to buy when you haven't had it before.
